Recently, Japan has formulated new principles governing the cases in which defence equipment and technology can be transferred to other countries.
We are now able to send out Japan’s superb defence equipment, such as for rescue, transportation, vigilance, surveillance, and minesweeping, in cases in which appropriate control can be ensured, on the basis of a strict examination.
Japan and the recipient country are first to forge a written agreement, and to make the whole process forward.
Japan will combine various options within its assistance menu, including ODA, capacity building by the Self-defence Forces, and defence equipment and technology cooperation, to support seamlessly the capacity of ASEAN countries in safeguarding the seas.
