The US intention of holding exercises frequently in the Asia-Pacific region is to accelerate tension in the South China Sea, oblige claimant countries like the Philippines and Vietnam to side with the US, and therefore expect to forge an alliance of claimants to confront with China.
Tension in the South China Sea does not only facilitate US arms sale to some countries, which promotes the interests of US military industrial complex, but also is helpful to improve the interoperability between the US and its allies and partners, which hence provides a basis for hedging China and maintaining US hegemonic status.
