 The USAF:10 air force headquarters, 53 air wings/groups, 9 ICBM squadrons, 1,300 operational aircraft, and 441 ICBMs are deployed in CONUS with a total strength of 242,000 personnel. 4 air force headquarters, 15 air wings/groups, 540 operational aircraft are deployed overseas with a total strength of 66,000 personnel. Among them, 3 air force headquarters, 9 air wings/groups, 300 operational aircraft are deployed in the Pacific region with a total strength of 34,700 personnel; 1 air force headquarters, 6 air wings/groups, 170 operational aircraft are deployed in Europe with a total strength of 29,000 personnel; 70 operational aircraft and altogether 1,730 personnel are deployed in the Middle East, South Asia, and North Africa; 50 personnel are deployed in central and southern Africa; and 310 personnel are deployed in central and southern America.

 C. Force Deployment in the Asia-Pacific Region

 The Asia-Pacific region is composed of Hawaii, Alaska, Guam and its western area, except West Coast of the US. In this region, the US military has a total strength of 154,300 personnel.

 Army:1 army group headquarters and 2 divisions with a strength of 56,100 personnel. Navy (Marine Corps included):1 numbered fleet, 1 carrier air wing, 1 Marine division, 1 Marine air wing, 1 electronic attack squadron, 2 patrol and reconnaissance wings, about 90 vessels, 152 aircraft with a total strength of 63,500 personnel. Air Force:3 air force headquarters, 9 air wings, around 300 aircraft with a total strength of 34,600 personnel. Deployment in detail:

 Hawaii. The overall strength is 51,400 personnel. Army:1 division of 22,400 personnel;Navy and Marine Corps:29 Vessels with strength of 23,800 personnel; Air Force:1 air wing with strength of around 5,200 personnel. Alaska. The overall strength is 19,500 personnel. USA:12,400 personnel; USAF:1 air force headquarters and 2 air wings with strength of 7,400 personnel; USN:60 personnel.

 Republic of Korea (ROK). US Forces Korea (USFK) is composed of 27,600 personnel. Army:1 army group headquarters, 1 division, with a total strength of 19,000 personnel; Air Force:1 air force headquarters and 2 air wings, with a total strength of 8,100; Navy:about 470 personnel.

 Japan. US Forces Japan (USFJ) is composed of 37,800. Army:about 2,440 personnel; Navy and Marine Corps:1 Marine division, 1 Marine air wing, 1 patrol and reconnaissance wing and 1 electronic attack squadron with strength of 23,600 personnel and 21 vessels; Air Force:1 air force headquarters and 3 air wings with strength of 11,800 personnel.

 Guam. The overall strength is 5,650 personnel. Army:about 80 personnel; Navy:6 vessels with strength of about 3,570 personnel; Air Force:1 air wing with strength of around 2,000 personnel.

 US Seventh Fleet. Around 60 vessels under its command (including 27 vessels stationed in Japan and Guam), with strength of 11,000 on board.

 Other countries and regions. About 1,350 personnel.

 D. New Types of Combat Forces Development

 In 2015, the US attached great importance to the development of new types of combat forces, namely, cyberspace operations, space operations, unmanned operations and special operations. Regarding cyberspace operation forces, the US military plans to appropriate $1.878 billion from FY2014 to FY2018 in order to complete the building of 133 cyberspace task forces in 2016 and form comprehensive combat capabilities in 2018. Up to 2015, the US military has established over 100 cyberspace task forces. In March, 2015, the USAF established the Cybersecurity Task Force with mission rotation of 12 months, mainly responsible for developing cybersecurity roadmap for the air force. Concerning space operation forces, the US has subsequently issued documents, such as National Space Policy, Space Posture Review and National Space Policy Directive, to evaluate space circumstances, identify strategic goals, elaborate emphasis of space force building, put forward specific steps of developing space force and from a highest level provide policy guidance and strategic planning for space force development. As a main service undertaking space missions, the USAF has developed a series of documents, including A Space Roadmap for the 21st Century Aerospace Force, The USAF Aerospace Force’s Command and Control Enabling Concept, and The United States Air Force’s Aerospace Domain Architecture:2020-2025, etc., to plan for the building and development of the USAF in the aerospace domain by the end of 2030. Meanwhile, the USAF has issued the Space Operations Doctrine, The Anti-Space Operations Doctrine, etc. and played war games based on an assortment of scenarios for space operations. To date, the USAF Space Command (AFSPC) has conducted at least 8 “Schriever” wargames on space operations, 1 “Space Flag” wargame on anti-space operations, and 2 anti-satellite tests. In the future, the US military will mainly focus on the following areas in the space domain:first, strengthening space defense; second, ensuring the completion of missions in more challenging environments; and third, improving the capabilities of high-altitude space situational awareness.
